"Dance Monkey"

"Dance Monkey"

Bella and Brit are sitting in their favorite table at their go-to brunch spot. The spread before them is large with bread baskets, large plates, coffee and mimosa carafes, and a large congratulations balloon/gift basket is sitting on the booth seat next to Bella. There's some Top 40s-like station playing in the background.

Brit: "They say…"

Bella: "Oh my god" what did they say about me?

Brit: I don't know if you're ready to hear it.

Bella: You're impossible. Girl, thank you for everything today.

Brit: I see the way you shine. I would never let you celebrate this amazing news alone.

Bella: What would I do without you?

Brit: Be lonely. I learned this relaxation technique this week. Here, "take your hand" like this.

Brit twists Bellas arm a bit.

Bella: "My dear!"

Brit: Okay "and place them both in mine" like that. Perfect. Okay now breathe slowly and deliberately.

Bella takes a few breaths.

Bella: I don't feel anything. This is such a weird pose.

Brit: It's supposed to work. Okay twist your right hand like this instead.

Charles and Evan walk up to the table. All are about the same age.

Evan: Hi there.

Brit: Hi.

Awkward pause.

Bella: Do you need something?

Charles: (to Bella) "You know you stopped me dead while I was passing by."

Brit: You look pretty alive to me.

Charles: You both were sitting there dancing and you caught my eye. I wanted to meet you.

Brit: (to Evan) What about you? What did you want to say?

Evan: Nothing, I'm here supporting Charles and I'm Evan.

Brit: Evan and Charles. You're looking at Bella and I'm Brit. Now if you could kindly leave.

Charles: Bella. What a beautiful name.

Evan: More like a bella name.

Brit: You are a terrible wingman if that's even what you can call yourself.

Evan: Hey now…. You are correct though. Wingmanning is not my strength.

Charles: "I beg to see you dance. Just one more time" and then I'll leave.

Bella: Um. Well. Only if you dance with me. I guess you can join me. Just put that on the ground next to us.

Charles: Thank you.

Charles sits down next to Bella. Evan looks at Brit and gestures to sit next to her. She shrugs and moves inward to give him a little space.

Charles: So I can't dance. What should I do?

Bella: Just move your shoulders side to side. Push out your right one and then switch to your left.

Bella rhythmically starts moving her shoulders. Charles begins to try, but is thinking too hard and it is clunky.

Evan: (laughing) "I see you" Charles.

Charles: (mimicking) "I see you." What I don't see is you even trying.

Brit starts to move along to Bella's pattern.

Brit: (to Evan) Well don't be the only one.

Bella: Brit is a much better dancer than me. I'm just a groover.

Brit: I "see you every time" and you are good.

Charles is still struggling, but genuinely having a good time. Evan gets up and starts to Pop in front of the table.

Brit: "Oh my, I, I, I like your style." Who knew he was going to do that?

Bella: (jokingly) A little flushed?

Charles: Me. He's a showboat.

Bella: There's no way we can compete with that.

Charles: We don't have to. He'll keep doing that for a few minutes, look at us while we clap and then act like it was no big deal.

Brit: (encouragingly to Evan) You're so good. Those moves "make me wanna cry." Get it!

Evan stops and points to Brit.

Evan: "And now I beg to see you dance."

Brit: Fine, "just one more time."

Brit stands to join Evan.
