“Over and Over”

“Over and Over”

Charlie arrives at home. He checks the mailbox and walks up the drive, but stops short of the porch to pick up a letter with his name and address on it.

Charlie: Who left this here?

He looks around. A neighbor watering plants looks up and waves.

Charlie: Is it for me? Maybe “it’s all in my head.” I can’t imagine who would of left this here and I don’t know if I should even open it. (yelling toward the neighbor) Did you see anyone come to my house?

Neighbor: Hey Charlie! No. I didn’t see anything. Everything okay?

Charlie waves the neighbor off.

Charlie: “I think about” who this could be from. Is it a good letter or a bad letter? I don’t even know. I flip it “over and over again” and there are no markings. Let me think about this, who could it be from? I know I lead a double life.

Neighbor comes over.

Neighbor: You usually go straight in the house. Everything okay?

Charlie: Nothing to worry about. I got this letter on my porch. Not sure where it came from and don’t know what it says.

Neighbor: Why won’t you open it?

Charlie: “I replay it over and over” when my girlfriend left me. I have a feeling this is from her.

Neighbor: Is it from her?

Charlie: I don’t recognize the handwriting. “I can’t take it.” I’m so nervous. Would you open it?

Neighbor: “Yeah”

Charlie passes it over.

Neighbor: It’s probably not anything, unless you have someone watching you.

Neighbor chuckles while opening it, but Charlie is not amused.

Charlie: That feeling though, “I can’t shake it.” So is it good or bad?

Neighbor: (eyes widen) “NO.”
