Music is Life. Writing is a journey. Together it creates Stories.

“Seconds”

“Seconds”

Lena is sitting at her vanity crying while putting on a full set of makeup, slowly. Her cell phone rings and she looks at it and lets it go to voicemail. After the phone stops ringing she continues to silently sob and put on her routine. The phone rings again multiple times and she puts it on speaker.

There’s a long pause.

Alex: Hey Lena. Are you there?

Lena: (sniffles) Yes.

Alex: “Be there seconds flat.”

Lena: I told you not to try this again.

Alex: “Just tell me where you at.”

Lena: It’s not going to work between us.

Alex: We literally had this conversation two days ago when we grabbed drinks. What happened to the confident woman who was walking out.

Lena: That was martini fueled. I had more time to think.

Alex: Nothing happened, right?

Lena: No, nothing has happened. I don’t want to make this big of a change.

Alex: It’s more like now or some time in the future. You know I love you. That “everywhere you wanna go, I will gladly follow.” I’m here for you. You know that.

Lena: It makes it worse. What if he finds out?

Alex: He’s never with you. He doesn't’ live at your joint apartment. He doesn’t call you. It really doesn’t seem like he cares. “That means he don’t need to know” you’re leaving until he comes home and you’re not there.

Lena: That doesn’t seem right.

Alex: “No one will ever know.”

Lena: I’ll know. All the people we know will know.

Alex: We’re leaving town so don’t worry, “no one will have to know.”

Lena: “Baby, I love you.” Okay. Let’s head out. My suitcases are in the hallway.

Alex: “Give me a second” and I’ll head your way. You look around for anything else you may have forgotten. I should be there in twenty.

Lena: This shouldn't be as hard as it feels.

Alex: It’ll get easier over time. You’re doing something major. Honestly, you’ll have to “just let go of the past.”

Lena: (smiling) Knowing doesn’t make it any easier. I’ll keep “weaving through the [highs] and [lows],” but thank you for helping me do this.

 Alex: See you soon.

Lena hangs up, wipes her tears, and begins to look in the closet and room for anything missed.
