Music is Life. Writing is a journey. Together it creates Stories.

"Hurricane"

"Hurricane"

There’s a storm rumbling in the distance and is getting closer quickly. Three friends, about middle school age, are having a sleepover at one of their large mansion-like homes. There is excitement and anxiety in the air.

Person A: Stop telling us that story!!!!

Person B: “Welcome to the inner workings of my mind.”

Person C: You’re being weird.

Person B: Weird is just a construct of your imagination. And the way adults want us to act. All proper all the time. I’m not doing that.

Person A: You’re so “dark and foul.”

Person B: “I can’t disguise” who I am.

Person C: You “can’t disguise?” Everyone does. That’s what we’re supposed to do.

Person B: Who says?

There’s a flash of light and a loud crash of thunder really close together. The wind starts to howl. The three friends jump.

Person A: “Nights like this” really freak me out.

Person C: Why did we do this tonight? “I become afraid.” This is way more than a storm. I didn’t even bring my BoopBoop.

Person B: No one knew this hurricane would land today. We all thought there were two more days. And hold up... You still have Mr. BoopBoop??

Person A: I’m surprised too. You told us he retired and went to live with your baby cousin.

Person C: I couldn’t part with him… okay?? (at Person B) How do you even stand this type of weather and all the scary stuff you watch?

Person B: (shrugs) Probably because “of the darkness in my heart.”

Person A: We’re in the middle of a “Hurricane” and you’re still trying to be a poet. Can we at least find your parents?

Person B: We’re in the safest part of the house.

Person C: The safest part is somewhere with no windows. Like that one bathroom in the hallway or a closet.

Person A: Let’s head to the pantry on the first floor. At least we can grab a snack.

As they start to get up, there’s another flash of lightning and everything goes silent, just a subtle whistle of wind, as they’re now in the eye of the hurricane. The three friends huddle together frightened.

Light out.
