The doorbell rings. Emily goes to open the door and is surprised by who’s on the other side.

Emily: What are you doing here?

There’s a pause. Jack finally answers.

Jack: I heard you lived in the city now.

Emily: I do. I have since we ended things.

Jack: “How long has it been?”

Emily: I don’t know, but “shall we get into it again?”

Jack: “Excuse” me. It’s been a long time. Are you going to ask me in?

Emily: Um… My family is here.

Jack: The more reason to not stand awkwardly at the door. I should meet them.

Ben who has been in the living room comes to the door.

Ben: Emily, who’s at the door? It’d be “our disgrace” to let the air out on this hot day.

Emily: Jack.

Ben starts laughing thinking she’s joking until he arrives at the door.

Ben: Jack.

Jack: Hey Ben.

Ben: Come on in I guess.

Emily: “We've had no time to paint the place.”

Jack: When did you move to this house?

Ben: A few months ago. How’d you get our address?

Jack: It’s public record. Does that dog ever shut up?

Emily: Our neighbor’s “dog is always barking at the mailman.”

Ben: Why would you think you could pop over?

Emily: I’ll go get some water.

Emily goes to the kitchen to grab something for the three of them.

Jack: “I won’t waste your time with my revelation.”

Emily comes back into the living room with a tray.

Jack: “Hello my friend, I see you're back again.” Thanks for the drink.

Ben: As you were saying?

Jack: “Hello mystery!” Am I right?

Emily: Jack, “don’t bother to explain.” You can go.

Ben: I don’t know what happened all those years ago. There’s no need to talk about it now.

Jack: “How ‘bout maybe, it’s all been in my head?” It seemed like a good time to come here. 5 years ago is a lot of time. I messed up and treated you both like shit.

Ben: Man, let’s just leave the water under the bridge.

Emily: “Hey!”

Jack: “Well I’m tired of this black and blue.”

Emily: “Black and blue?”

Jack: What would you call it?

Emily is mad now.

Emily: “My dear, come again?” Black and blue means nothing to us anymore. You need to leave now.

Jack: (taken aback) You can’t kick me out again.

Emily: (screeching) This is my house. It’s mine and Ben’s house. You aren’t a part of this. Get out!

Ben: (to Emily) Honey, I’ll handle this. “Your voice is” going to fade “out and in” if you don’t calm down. (to Jack) It’s time for you to head out and never contact us again.

Jack: Tossing me “out of the laundry bin.” Same as last time, but there’s really no reason this time. I’m trying to make amends. Looks like “I found my innocence again.”

Emily: (lunging at Jack) Innocence?!

Ben catches Emily and returns his attention to Jack.

Jack: That’s my cue. (opening the door) Dude, that “dog is always barking at the mailman.” (closes door)
