"White Shadows"
Someone drops some papers on the train platform. Jasper picks these up and tries to call out to the person who dropped them. He begins to rummage through these and read bits. Jasper is in his early 30s and is heading to his new job.
Jasper: This is some kid’s homework. I hope that they don’t get in too much trouble. “When I was a young boy, I tried to listen” to my parents and teachers. Nothing worked. My head was always in the clouds and experimenting was always preferred to doing what grownups told me. “And I want to feel like that” again. Such a wave of excitement to put together my Legos without the instructions. That time I put together a larger Yoda and there were so many blocks left over. These “little white shadows blink” and I totally “missed them.” I remember my sister getting so mad because I wasn’t doing it right. She’s always been “part of a system” and likes it.
I am so ready to get to work. This is exactly what I’ve wanted for a long time. I “[felt] like something’s missing” before this. “Things [we] never understand” pulling me back. It took a long time to get here, but it’s all happening and fast. This whole feeling is like “little white shadows” that “sparkle and glisten.” This is “part of a system,” well, “a plan.”
The train is taking a long time this morning (checks watch.) Hopefully it’s not stuck on the tracks.
After a few moment, the train rushes down the tracks and screeches to a halt.
“All this noise,” but helps me as “I’m waking up.” (addressing someone who is coming off the train) Pardon me.
Jasper finds a seat on the crowded train.
Eeesh, look at “all this space I’m taking up.”
He stands and allows another passenger to sit. There’s a couple across the way that’s having a fight and it’s clearly getting on the nerves of many in the car.
I feel bad for those two, “all this sound” of “breaking up.” I’m glad I’m not in that position anymore.
One of the people in the couple makes a large commotion and comes to stand next to Jasper.
(to the person) It’s hard not to be upset. You guys had quite a fight. “Maybe you’ll get what you wanted.” You mentioned there’s a lot of stuff you want to do so “maybe you’ll stumble upon it” now.
The person stares at Jasper not saying anything, but interested in the console.
Think about what is that you want the future to bring. Based on that and the work you can do to make it, you’ll get “everything you ever wanted.” That’s what I’ve been working through. Sometimes it leads to “a permanent state.”
