"Hand In My Pocket"

"Hand In My Pocket"

Two people are sitting at a bar chatting. They don’t know each other and have an air of newfound interest in one another. Only one person speaks the whole time the other reacts.

Person A: My job is going well, “I’m free, but I’m focused” you know. I have my goals and what I need to do and I get to do what I want to make it work. Working for that “green, but I’m wise” you know. Saving up to buy my own place. These jobs aren’t paying what they use to. I’m sure you’re wondering how I got so good at my job. “I’m hard, but I’m friendly” you know. “Baby” you’d never have to worry about me because I can take care of myself. You know I got so good at taking care of myself that it’s been hard to date. When “I’m sad, but I’m laughing” that’s when I’m most alive you know. It’s so easy to put on a confident face and act as if “I’m brave, but I’m chickenshit.” It’s actually really weird just being a person in this world. Doctors would probably say “I’m sick. But I’m pretty” you know so what does it matter.

Person A starts to walk around the bar and heads toward the piano.

“And what it all boils down to is that no one’s really got it figured out just yet.” Not my friends, my roommate, my family. No one. We can’t live in distress though. That’s why “I’ve got one hand in my pocket and the other one is playing [this] piano.”
