"Go Easy"

"Go Easy"

Daisy disappeared behind the hedge of the garden party leaving George by himself. He’s nursing a drink waiting for her to come back.

George: “My own deception is moving too quick.” I don’t know how else to apologize. I hoped I only said the wrong thing, not the thing that ends us forever. “I tried to love.” She has been the only one I can even say that honestly about. “I lost it.” I lost her.

It’s unfair though. Daisy gave me an ultimatum “and I never wanted to change.” The emotion though, “it’s taking me over” making me think about things I’ve never wanted to. I’m the one who leaves on my terms so why is this break “making me colder?” It’s 85 degrees out here.

Daisy comes back and chats with the host of the party briefly, this is inaudible. George waves for her to come over. She smiles at the host and then goes to the table. Standing over George.

Daisy: What?

George: Don’t be like that.

Daisy: I am here so that people don’t really see the scene I want to make. They’re not stupid though.

George: You “broke it” up. I get it you don’t want to see me after today. “Would you quit” the restaurant?

Daisy: Yes, I will. I need to find a new job, but I don’t want to work there anymore, especially with you there.

George: “Is this heartache we can fix?”

Daisy: It’s been 10 minutes. You can’t possibly think you’ve had enough time to know you want me back or that your heart is really broken. Try again “in the morning when [you] wake.”

George: Sure, sure. “When I’m sober. Would you stay” if I got sober?

Daisy: Bye, George.

George: Daisy wait! “Please just go easy on me.”
