There’s a 15-year old girl being held captive in a bullet proof cell. She’s yelling inaudibly and you can see her continuing to get more angry. There are two people watching her. One is a night watchperson and the other is a doctor.

Night Watch: Did you think this would happen?

Doctor: Not in a million years. We thought we were curing cancer and finding ways to eliminate AIDS. We got this instead.

Night Watch: “May your dreams come to reality.” That’s what the government has been saying for years, but now…

Doctor: Look what we’ve done. I don’t even know what to do now. Most of the scientists have left this place and never looked back. We’re at the end of something disastrous.

Night Watch: “If all else fails” we can leave here and simply leave her. You and I and a handful of others are the only ones left. She’s bound to get out at some point and you know what will happen then.

Doctor: You’re saying it’s time to “give up?”

Night Watch: I’m saying I don’t get paid enough to stroll this facility with the constant fear of death every time I turn this corner.

Doctor goes over to grab scotch. Pours two glasses.

Doctor: Want one? (passes a glass to Night Watch)

Night Watch: “We needed the company.” Cheers.

Doctor: I’ll drink to that and “let’s drink to your health.” (drinks the entire cup and pours another glass)

Night Watch: (swirling the drink in the cup) How did you get here?

Doctor: I ask myself every day. I tested new medicines on rats 25 years ago. Today I’m one of three people responsible for the destruction of young lives and ultimately the rest of society. These creatures. No, they’re still human, are something out of a messed up story. I feel sorry. I feel so bad for all the lives I continue to ruin and have ruined. Those parents didn’t deserve this. Their children didn’t deserve this. I’m rambling, “you could never feel my story” and I’m going to stop before I say something worse.

Night Watch: The world now though, it’s all they know. “It’s all you know.”

Doctor: (shrugging) Well there’s nothing to do but run my tests and let her continue throwing the never ending tantrum. We’re all supposed to be free, but she’s a captive.

Night Watch: Would you ever let her out?

Doctor: (chuckling) Oh god no. I’m a monster, but “I will not fold” and let the rest of humanity end yet.

Night Watch: She looks maniacal.

Doctor: Don’t be fooled. “She’s in control of everything.”

Night Watch: The only thing that’s in the way is the glass?

Doctor: She’s in control “of everything and everyone.”
