Cat is sitting under a tree working on something when her best friend Shawn arrives and sits down next to her.

Cat: You’re late.

Shawn: Backbeat, I’m always late.

Cat: Still don’t know why that’s my nickname. I thought “today is gonna be the day” that changes.

Shawn: Well then you’re going to find that “they’re gonna throw it back to you.”

Cat: Not them. Just you.

Shawn: Our friends are always late!

Cat: I’m just too responsible.

Shawn: “By now you should’ve somehow realized what you gotta do.”

Cat: Yeah, I need to tell everyone 30 minutes beforehand and have games to play for everyone around who arrives between the time I say and when the last person gets to the hangout.

Shawn: It’s a good thing we’re not seeing a movie.

Cat: I wish people would at least text they were running behind.

Shawn: “I don’t believe that anybody feels the way I do about you.”

Cat: That’s sweet. You were late too.

Shawn: No, “Backbeat.” I’m serious.

Cat: What? “The word was on the street” that you were with Jordan.

Shawn: I don’t know where you got that info from. I like you and have for a long time.

Cat: I’m surprised! You know “that the fire in [my] heart is out” after what happened last year.  That was rough and I don’t want to fall into the same trap.

Shawn: You won’t fall into the same unfortunate issues in relationships. I mean, “I’m sure you’ve heard it all before,” but you are amazing and smart and beautiful and wonderful.

Cat: Thanks. I don’t really know what to say.

Shawn: You don’t have to say anything. I know I’m putting this on you for the first time.

Cat: When did this start?

Shawn: I’ve been in love with you for years.

Cat: And “you never really had a doubt?”

Shawn: Of course I have. In this moment though, I can assure you that “I don’t believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now.”

Cat: If we do this then “all the roads we have to walk are winding.” Nothing will be straight forward.

Shawn: You and I know that “all the lights that lead us there are blinding.” If you’re okay with it, I want to try this with you.

Cat: “There are many things that I would like to say to you, but I don’t know how.”

Shawn: That’s okay. You don’t have to say anything “because maybe” we need time to comprehend this.

Cat: I mean, if anyone, “you’re gonna be the one that saves me.”

Shawn: Backbeat. I want you to know and be “my wonderwall.”
