"Hurt Somebody"

Sara is on a swing in an empty park. She's watching something in the distance.

Sara: Who builds a park next to the highway?

Sara checks her watch.

Sara: "Don't know where the time went." He was supposed to be here an hour ago. It's peaceful. Still mad - why do I give him passes? I just keep getting "stuck in the wrong mindset." I keep letting him off the hook. "I let the rules bend" for this one. But why? What makes him so special "when I know that all along" it'll be the same and every single time.

Pete walks up. He tries to sneak up behind her but Sara turns to see him at the last second.

Sara: You're late.

Pete: There was traffic. I was already speeding to get here.

Sara: What are rules for anyway?

Pete: "They're made to break." How long have you been here?

Sara: Since we agreed to meet an hour ago. "You got me searching for reasons to keep me from leaving." Right here. Right now.

Pete: I'm here. Now.

Sara: That's not a reason that is going to keep me around.

Pete: It's okay.

Sara: Look. Recently, "at night, I have trouble breathing." I know that this should end but for whatever reason "I give myself another chance to stay." Why?

Pete: I can't answer that for you. Do you want me to leave?

Sara: No. I want you to "hold me close and” that way “I won't leave."

Pete: You sure?

Sara: Why do you stay? "'Cause it hurts” me.

Pete: "When you hurt somebody" it feels awful. It is not my intention at least.

Sara: I just have "so much to say."

Pete: Say it.

Sara: "But I don't speak" up and it's a problem.

Pete: You can say anything to me.

Sara: "And I hate that I let you" wash over me.

Pete: You can "stop me." At any time, "'cause it hurts" to see you so hard on yourself.

Sara: Do you not care "when you hurt somebody?"

Pete: I don't think I know that it's what I'm doing.

Sara: "One day before you know it, you will see."
