"From the Morning"

"From the Morning"

Shelly has made a 3-mile to get to her hidden overlook to watch the sunrise. She doesn't notice there's someone else up there and starts to talk to herself.

Shelly: You did it again, making "a day" trip. Getting here to see the sunrise. "Once dawned" it becomes so beautiful. Like that time I was in Japan while the cherry blossoms bloomed. "And it was beautiful." Never have I seen or smelled so much beauty.

Ames rustles some leaves. Shelly looks over startled.

Ames: Sorry, I just didn't know how to get your attention. Let you know someone else is up here too.

Shelly: I appreciate that. Want to join?

Ames: Sure. I do agree that it's beautiful up here.

Shelly: How long have you been coming up?

Ames: I only found this place 4 months ago. Come up here once a week or so. You?

Shelly: It's been just about 12 years. My dad would bring me up here. He used to say, "'a day once dawned' is the start of all you have for that day." Essentially it was about every day being a gift.

Ames: Your dad  sounds like a great person.

Shelly: He is. My parents moved across the country a couple years back.

Ames: One of my aunt's had a similar saying but it was something about coming up "from the ground." Easily could have been about anything though. Why'd they move.?

Shelly: My grandparents. They needed more help and my parents wanted a change of scenery.

Ames: Sorry to hear that.

Shelly: Circle of life.

Ames: Do you come here to watch the sunset too?

Shelly: Once, but it wasn't as incredible as the sunrise so I never tried that again. "Then the night" comes and it's a hard trek to make back in the dusk.

Ames: You think anyone ever fell from here?

Shelly: I know someone who did. "She fell" hard and fast. Luckily there is kind of a ledge maybe 15 feet down the slope so as long as you don't roll off that you'll be okay.

Ames: I was only joking.

Shelly: It's pretty dangerous up here but "the air [is] beautiful" so worth the risk.

Ames: Well I need to head to work, but I'm glad I ran into you up here. Maybe we'll see each other soon?

Shelly: I hope so too.
