Music is Life. Writing is a journey. Together it creates Stories.

"How Far We've Come"

"How Far We've Come"

Note from the author: In light of everything happening with Coronavirus it’s a lot of fun to think about what it would be like to be out with friends again. Since we can’t escape what’s going on in the world, please stay safe and, unfortunately, in your homes. One day (relatively soon) we’ll be able to move about the cabin (and world!) again.

Sera and Julie are sitting in a coffee shop in the morning. Everyone's cell phones start to vibrate and ring. People begin to freak out and leave quickly, some forgetting belongings. Sera silences her phone.

Sera: Today's the day.

Julie: I am not prepared. Who knew that I'd be "waking up at the start of the end of the world" today?

Sera: No one did. We were at this moment where "it's feeling just like every other morning, before" we realize that it's not normal and it might never really be normal.

Julie: We probably should go back to the house too.

Sera: I'm glad we're roommates. At least we won't be alone.

Julie: I can't believe it might all end.

Sera: "I wonder what my life is going to mean."

Julie: "If it's gone?"

Sera: Yeah.

Long silence as they walk from the cafe to their car.

Sera: Woah, look at that traffic. "The cars are moving like a half a mile an hour" now.

Julie: Thank god we're heading in the other direction.

They get in the car and start to go. The sky is a bright, unnatural orange that seems low and glowing.

Sera: "And I started" to sing that one time. They unplugged the machine. We were so drunk, but I can't believe you don't remember that. I don't think anyone has ever been THAT bad.

Julie: You keep telling me that story and I do not remember at all. Why are you "staring at the passengers" so intently?

Sera: They seem sad. All of these people "who're waving goodbye" and to who though? Driving out of town isn't going to save anyone.

Julie: That's depressing. Let's play a game.

Sera: What? Like punch-buggy?

Julie: No, something else, ask me a question.

Sera: "Can you tell me what was ever really special about me all this time" we've know each other?

Julie: You couldn't just ask me what color makes me smile or something?

Sera: Tell me roomie! You wanted a question so "I believe" you need to tell me what makes me special.

Julie: Get out of here. "The world is burning to the ground. Oh well," how long do you think we have?

Sera: (shrugs) Don’t know. "I guess we're gonna find out."
